Deciding to buy a baby bath tub may be as easy as a picking out cute little baby booties, or as hard as choosing the right name for your baby. With prices on some infant bath tubs as high as 30 and 40 dollars; many may wonder if having one is really a necessity, or just an expensive baby luxury.

Well consider this… The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that dozens of children drown each year. Two-thirds of these accidents happened in the home in bath tubs. While the majority of these drownings took place when the child was left unattended, a few incidences occurred while a parent was trying to give their baby a bath in an adult-sized tub and the child just simply slipped away.

For safety reasons, baby bath tubs are clearly a necessity, especially during those first few months when an infant cannot sit up or provide their own support.

Many of these specialized baby tubs are designed with slings or hammocks that will hold a newborn securely in place. Others have a foam grip inside that will prevent slipping. All of them are small enough to fit inside a regular bath tub which gives the parent the convenience of bathing their baby in an environment that is water-friendly and easy to keep clean.

But make sure you do some research and read product reviews on the various baby bath tubs on the market before you fork over your hard earned cash. A tub that is perfect for one baby may be a complete disaster for another. A Soothing Spa and Shower Baby Bath Tub may sound like a wonderful thing, but if you later find out that the sprayer is too difficult to use you may end up feeling ripped off. That’s why it is always best to find out what other parents have to say before you buy.

Lastly, if you are giving your baby a bath for the very first time, consult your pediatrician or get some information online on how to do it right. Experts say you should not immerse a baby in bath water before the umbilical cord has fallen off or the circumcision has healed. Sponge baths are the only way to go in the first few weeks. You should also line up all of your baby bath items before you start the bath.

More importantly, NEVER EVER leave a baby unattended in a bath tub! If you have to leave the room, take your baby with you.

Cyprus is famed for her rugged coastline and pleasant summer climate. However, most people don’t realise that she is also a gateway to the world. Frequent ferry services coupled with a central location make Cyprus holidays the perfect base to explore a whole new world.

The concept of booking a luxury holiday in Cyprus and then spending half of it in a completely different country may sound a little strange. But it shouldn’t, Cyprus has some reasonably priced ferries that run regularly and many operators are taking advantage of this fact and running trips between luxury hotels in Cyprus and unique and evocative destinations, like Israel, that you wouldn’t always have the opportunity to explore.

Here are our pick of some of the best destinations that can be reached by ferry from Cyprus.

Egypt

There is a regular ferry service during the summer season between the ports of Limassol and Port Said. So what is there to do in Port Said? Well actually not a lot, but a large number of companies make use of this ferry and run 1/3 day excursions around the sites of Egypt. You can spend time in the Egyptian capital of Cairo and from here arranging an excursion to the pyramids of Giza is relatively simple. Many excursion companies pick up from luxury hotels in Cyprus and will drop you back there the next day. There are a wide range of different excursions available in Egypt from day trips to the pyramids of Giza to week long river cruises around ancient Egyptian temples.

Israel

There is so much to see in Israel, the Wailing Wall, the Church of the Nativity, the Mount of Olives, The Garden of Gethsemane….but let’s face it, it isn’t somewhere that you’d consider holidaying in at the present time.

However Israel’s close location to Cyprus means that you can take some time out to explore this incredible country whilst on your Cyprus holidays. The ferry service runs between Limassol and Port Haifa, but companies such as Cruise Cyprus offer day long excursions, around the Holy Land. Most itineraries include visits to the Wailing Wall and the Church of the Nativity. But, be warned it isn’t always possible to get permission to enter Bethlehem and in those circumstances tour itineraries are changed accordingly.

Rhodes

The beautiful Greek island of Rhodes is reachable by ferry from Limassol and although the Greek and Cypriot cultures are largely the same, it is still worth visiting Rhodes on your Cyprus holidays. Rhodes has a chequered history and her strategic position on the Mediterranean in the past opened her up to many invaders. Nowadays, she is better known for her beautiful beaches and party atmosphere. The resort of Faliraki is housed here, but if you’re not really a party animal, then you may want to stick to the historic old town resort, which was declared a UNESCO site in the 1980’s.

Lebanon

You may have caught the odd documentary on Lebanon and wistfully gazed at sites such as the incredible Jeita Grotto, a cavern sculpted by water and time. However, again it probably isn’t that high on your holiday priority list. But most luxury hotels in Cyprus will offer excursions to Lebanon, and there are plenty of reasons that you should visit this destination. As well as the hearty Lebanon cuisine, the country has some incredible sites. The fabled town of Byblos is worth a visit, as is the historic Church of the Lady of Harissa. So why not get the most out of your Cyprus holidays and book yourself a quick fix trip to one of the surrounding countries.

Travel officials push back on business travel – Yahoo! News

WASHINGTON – The CEO of Internet travel site Travelocity said Wednesday that misguided criticism of business travel has led to a lot of confusion about what’s acceptable.

Speaking to a Senate subcommittee on tourism, Sam Gilliland said the Treasury Department’s failure to carefully define what constitutes luxury and excessive travel has led to “paralyzing confusion … in our industry and in corporations.”

“Meetings, conventions and incentive travel are proven business tools that allow companies to establish valuable relationships, solicit feedback and reward employees,” he said.

Gilliland and five other officials in the travel and tourism industry spoke to the Senate subcommittee on Wednesday. Collectively they offered anecdotes from across the country about travel and tourism revenue drying up amid current economic conditions.

Most said overheated rhetoric aimed at business travel was at least partly to blame.

“I think the perception that business travel is not an essential part of conducting commerce has had a really deleterious effect,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “… If business travel comes to a place like Las Vegas, Miami or any other attractive location, it becomes vilified.”

In Las Vegas alone, more than 400 meetings have recently been canceled, said Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO of the city’s Convention and Visitors Authority.

“It hurts everyone, but more importantly it impacts jobs … it’s directly impacted over 46,000 employees,” Ralenkotter said. “So we need to have accountability for companies that receive TARP funds, but we need to look at these guidelines so that people continue to travel.”

Senators on the subcommittee seemed to agree. Subcommittee’s Chairwoman Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said the excesses of a few bad actors have unfairly tarnished business travel.

“Most business travel is essential to doing business, and succeeding at business,” Klobuchar said. “… There are ways for businesses to conduct meetings and events in a way that is responsible and productive.”

Jay Witzel, the chairman and CEO of Carlson Hotels, which owns the Radisson hotel chain, said he feared the economic crisis had created an “America where legitimate travel is being questioned and canceled.

“Business travel is not optional, nor is it a luxury,” he said. “There’s no substitute for face to face, hand to hand and heart to heart meetings.”
